It was started by the Lay Clergy and is run by Bobbi (who used to teach my kids in high school, so I kinda owe her).
I usually get an idea or want to copy an idea I've found so I head up there to see if I can find supplies. I always find a project!
I was talking to Mary Alice and noticed a pair of little girls jeans hanging on the rack next to her. They were so cute all embroidered up. I had my hands full of glassware since my next project was going to be a garden totem but I just had to have these jeans.
Well once I got back to my shop this is what i made of those cute little jeans!

The big purse is from the main part of the jeans and the little purse is from one of the legs. I didn't have to do anything but cut the legs off to make the big purse and add handles from the one leg and the little purse was cut from the embroidered leg, turned upside down and I added scrap fabric for the ruffle and handle. Then I added a huge snap on the inside top to keep any treasures safe. And to think, I had my mind on my glass totem.

Pattern for your STASH!

Here's a quilt I made up from my stash and I think you will enjoy it also. I made mine a wall hanging size but you can make it as large as you have scraps for. This pattern uses 5" squares and 1-1/2" strips for the frames. I used 2-1/2" strips for the sashing and borders. You pick up a kit at each shop for only $7.50 each and when you get done you can actually make something similiar to the below pictures.

My quilt is the first one, then Heritage Fine Fabrics in Belton, and the bottom one is Cornerstone Fabric in Smithville. I am totally amazed at the designs we can come up with using the same kits!
Let me explain how this works for those of you who have never done our Shop Hop.
You pick up a "passport" at your first shop and fill in your name, address & phone number. This is very important in case you WIN! Each shop needs to stamp your passport and with your completed (all 11 shops) passport you will be put in a drawing for the $500 GRAND PRIZE of a shopping spree. You will receive a gift certificate for $500 to use at one, a few, or all of the shops. Each shop will record how much you spend there and subtract it from the total $500 before you leave. Isn't that an awesome prize???? I'm thinking of dropping out on the retail side and doing the shop hop... no, not really.
Since there is only ONE $500 grand prize shopping spree, we have come up with other prizes your completed passport will be eligible for. Each shop has a basket of goodies or one of 3 gift certificates for that shop that you have a chance to win. So worth it in this economy!
All drivers can put their name in a drawing for a chance to win one of three $25 gas cards.
In addition to all these drawings each shop has 20% off books and patterns! And tons and tons of fabulous fabrics to buy for your projects!!!!
I heard on the news this morning that next week will be the "peak" for the fall colors. Wouldn't it be a wonderful week to travel to each shop?
Make plans, get your money together & your address labels for the gas drawing jar and plan on coming by to see all of us next week, October 3rd through October 8th.
Monday, Wednesday & Friday open: 9 am - 6 pm
Tuesday and Thursday: 9 am - 8 pm
Saturday 9 am - 5 pm

Annette's new Wall Art!

Annette just sent me a picture of these easy DIY wall art squares. Our kits cost $7.50 a "row".This is how I made my quilt from all of the participating shop's blocks.

I'm thinking I may make mine into a shower curtain since the bathroom is the scariest room in the house...

I love this website

I absolutely love this website. I need to make each segment of this 6" block 2 1/2" square. The directions call for 2 7/8" squares cut once diagonally (\) so I make 3" squares cut once diagonally because I like to trim them afterwards. It also calls for 3 1/4" squares cut diagonally twice (X) so I cut these 3 1/2" square and then cut them diagonally twice. I would much rather trim the segments after sewing then try to make them fit after I've sewed them and they are just a thread too short in one corner. <strike>Sew</strike> I mean SO I sew the segments together and they look like this:

Sorry about the quality of the pics

Since I need to trim this to 2 1/2" square I do the math and divide my needed square size ( 2 1/2") by 2 to arrive at 1 1/4". I find the 1 1/4" lines on my ruler and mark them. This is where I need to line up the seam intersections on the block like in this picture. I line up the 45 degree line on my ruler with the seam in the upper right corner and make sure my 1 1/4" lines are intersecting with the intersection of seams on the block.

I make sure my 2 1/2" line is showing on top of the fabric all around so I can trim. Trim the right and top sides and it should look like the picture below left.

Now flip the entire block like in the pic to the right and line up your 2 1/2" lines to the left and bottom. Make sure your 45 degree line is on the diagonal and trim the right and top sides again. For instance, I'm working on the 2011 Show Me Safari Shop Hop blocks. I'm one of 11 shops you can visit this October 3rd through October 8th to pick up up the kits ($7.50 ea) to make a one of a kind "Spooktacular" quilt. Yes, we are featuring a Halloween themed quilt this year. I'll post pictures when I get some of it put together.

I lay in bed at night and think of ideas for projects. Most of which I forget by morning but a few stay with me. I decided I'm changing all of my dish towels to 100% cotton fabrics instead of the usual terry cloth I have now. When did we think terry cloth was the norm for dishes? I prefer the cloth towels because they dry quicker. Anyway, I thought it would be cute if I appliqued an vintage travel trailer on some fabric and this is what I got. Pretty cool, huh? Well, I think so. I could have used a button for the tire but I thought that would get in the way when I'm drying my dishes. Okay, I don't dry the dishes, I just put them on the towel to air dry.
I got 30" of fabric from a bolt and had a scrap of the plaid for the trailer. I drew on freezer paper, ironed it to the plaid fabric and then used a gold thread to embroider (with a large zigzag stitch) the trailer "hitch & stand". Then I used a blanket stitch to sew the trailer to the cloth. All with the machine!

I folded the fabric in half with right sides together just like it came off the bolt (30" long x 20" wide) and sewed all along the edges with a straight stitch leaving an opening so I could turn it right sides out. After I turned and pressed it I stitched all along the edges again about 1/8" from the edge. I can't wait to use it.

<georss:box>38.76335781306369 -94.29674079101565 38.80964181306369 -94.23331779101565</georss:box>
